With July fourth right around the corner I figured that I would do some research as to why we celebrate. I was really surprised to find out of the 56 men there were very few signatures on the Declaration of Independance I had ever heard of.

Many of the men who signed the Decleration went on to suffer a terrible hardship, and some even lost their lives. Their families were destroyed, their wealth lost, their possesions looted, and they were driven out of their homes.

The 56 men were affluent men, well educated, men of means. They were not a group of men that gathered to cause trouble. They had a lot to lose, and they knew when they signed that piece of paper they were putting everything at risk.

Imagine what life could be like today if they had not been willing to die for their country. The freedom that we are so willing to take for granted could not be ours to have.

The same goes for the men and woman since then and today that risk their lives so that you and I have rights. People join the military everyday in this country knowing that they have a fight ahead of them and they may not be returning home.

Tomorrow when your eating your hotdogs, spending time with family, and watching the fireworks, be sure to take a minute to give thanks to the men and women out there past and present that have given you your freedom. Have a safe 4th of July!!
