Common Core Math: Learning to Fly Would Be Easier

This blog is a little different than what I normally do, but after struggling this school year with common core I had to get some things off of my chest.
Whatever happened to doing things the easy way? Why does math have to be so complicated now?
This entire year has been a disaster when it comes to math. I have struggled with every new assignment. It is frustrating to say the least.
When I turn in a paper it looks like I have sat down and tried to communicate with ancient Egyptians using heiroglyphics. There are circles, dots, swirls, triangles, and many other non math things all over my paper. There are cases where 2+2 does not equal 4, you do not always have to have the correct answer to get the problem right, and if you get the answer right but did not draw the dots, and add random numbers that appear to be pulled from space, the problem is still marked wrong.
Teaching children to do math this way is going to cuase chaos later in life. I have never seen my mom draw dots when she sits down to balance her checkbook. My generation is not going to be able to balance a checkbook, and it's probably a good thing because we won't be able to sign our names to the check anyway (schools no longer teach cursive writing).
