I know I am going to catch it from the people I know, after all I am from Ohio, and anyone that lives here has Buckeyes in their blood.
Growing up, I have wanted to go down many career paths. There was pizza delivery person, the President of the U.S.A, soldier, professional fighter, and the list goes on. The last few years I have decided that I want to major in computer engineering along with game design.
For years I have always assumed that I would be headed off to Ohio State, until I joined my schools wrestling team.
I had never been interested in wrestling before. We always had wrestlers come to the gym, and I hated to train with them. They were all squirmy, spastic and always rolled right to their stomachs. In my world of training you never want to roll to your stomach because that sets you up for an immediate submission by choke.
Once I had joined the wrestling team I realized that I was not in my world, I was in theirs. In Jiu jitsu you want to take your time, relax, and watch for your opportunity to make your move. I was really surprised when on my first day at practise, the match started, he came right in for the double leg take down, I went straight to my back and the match was over. It was going to be a learning curve for me.
By the time the actual seaon started I had become a wrestler. I was squirmy, spastic, and would roll to my stomach as soon as we went to the ground, after all I did not have to worry about the dreaded rear naked choke. Adapting to the new techniques was not the biggest change in me. I had wrestling fever, it was in my blood.
I spent hours watching videos of college wrestlers, watching their stance, feet positioning, takedowns, anything that would help make me better. I realized I was watching Iowa state a lot and they were amazing. So I started doing my research. They have everything I am interested in academic wise, and it does not hurt that their wrestling team is one of the best in the nation.
Hopefully one day I will be a part of Iowa States wrestling team, and on my way to earning my degree. Right now I just have to work on keeping my grades up and getting pins when I am on the mat.
GO CYCLONES!!!!
