Brazlian Jiu Jitsu is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States. The sport was created for the smaller, less athletic person. You do not have to be the biggest or the strongest to be able to beat an oppenent or someone who is trying to attack you.

When I first started taking Jiu Jitsu, I could not stand it, because I hated being on the ground.

I cannot tell you how many times in the beginning that I just wanted to give up. There were days when I spent two hours with someone on top of me, submitting me in ways I never knew were possible.

After weeks of training and being submitted everyday, I started learning how to get out of the submissions, and to apply a submission before they submitted me. With every submission I endured I gained knowledge, and with knowledge my love for the sport grew.

As I write this blog today I am no longer a white belt, a beginner. I am now a yellow belt, thus indicating I have gained the skills and knowledge that helped me win some pretty big tournaments...local, state, and national.

However, I still get submitted by my teammates and coach in every way possible. The big difference now is that I know one day I will submit them. In the words of Carlson Gracie, Jr., it will not be because I have gotten that good, it will be because they make a mistake, and everyone knows that Every Dog Has Its Day!!
