Anyone who has ever been involved with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu will tell you that the Gracie family is huge in the sport.
I've never been one of those kids who wants to meet a pop star, or would go out of my way to try to see an actor. That all changed when I became involved with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
I was amazed when I first saw what the Gracies were able to accomplish. Then he came to my gym to do a seminar. There was no way I would have missed this!
The day of the event I was nervous, scared, intimidated, but mostly excited. He walked in and was amazing. He was the most down to earth person, a great teacher, friendly, and had many many new techniques to show.
During the seminar someone asked him, "What was the fastest you have ever tapped someone in a match." Gracie said, "The light turned green and it was over. Not because I was good, but because the other guy made a mistake."
It was nice to see someone as talented as he is be so humble. My favorite part of the day was after class when I walked to get a picture with him. He slapped me on the back, rubbed my head, and told me to keep up the good work. Then he autographed my Gi.
I'm sure the feeling I had right then was no different than that of every screaming girl at a Justin Beiber concert.
It was a good day!
